About

About Japan Insider

Japan Insider is an independent travel-guide site dedicated to one country: Japan. Our goal is simple — to help first-time and returning visitors plan a confident, well-informed trip, from the practical basics (rail passes, budgets, SIM cards) to the deeper experiences (onsen, temples, regional food).

How Our Guides Are Written

Every guide is researched and edited by the Japan Insider travel team, drawing on first-hand travel in Japan, official sources (Japan Rail, tourism boards, prefectural climbing and transit authorities), and on-the-ground reporting. We prioritise accuracy on the things that change — prices, timetables, seasonal dates, and rules — and we review our most-read guides regularly to keep them current for the year you're travelling.

Our Editorial Standards

  • Accuracy first. When we quote a fare, a bloom forecast, or an entry fee, we check it against the official source and date it. If something changes, we update the guide.
  • Honest recommendations. We tell you when something is not worth it (for example, when a rail pass costs more than point-to-point tickets), not just when it is.
  • No fluff. We aim for specific, useful detail — real prices, real station names, real timings — over generic filler.

How This Site Is Funded

Japan Insider is free to read. We help fund the site by connecting readers with vetted local guides and private tours through our partner, Japan Insider Tours. Booking a tour is entirely optional and never changes the advice in our guides.

Corrections & Contact

Found an out-of-date price or a factual error? We want to fix it. Reach us through the contact options on our tours site, and we'll review and correct the guide.
